I made this handout with two other Writing Center consultants in Spring 2011, which was one of my first semesters working there. For our training class, we were asked to make a handout that would help the writers who come to our center, and we were given the discipline of Biology. We narrowed our handout topic to inserting charts, tables, and graphs. We looked through various resources, contacted a biology professor, and collected information that we could compile into a handout. To design the handout, we used Microsoft Office Publisher in the hopes of making it appear professional, organized, and eye-catching. Creating this handout gave me experience with projects that stray away from the typical college essay, and I feel more comfortable with Microsoft Office Publisher because of it. The handout also gave me experience writing in a different medium; my writing had to be brief, concise, and clear, and I also had to incorporate sources appropriately. This project gave me experience that I can use in a marketing or public relations field.
